The following is an excerpt of a summary of the findings:   “The researchers note that the success rate of IVF is 24% (for 4 or more embryos transferred) as a standalone therapy.  The combination of IVF with acupuncture has a significantly higher success rate of 42.5%.  They note that the improved success rate… indicates a safe and economical way to assist women undergoing fertility treatments.”  The study also indicates that acupuncture can be an extremely effect tool in helping women to conceive naturally.  “A total of 52.38% of women in the study conceived with […]

Allergy Sufferers–Neti Pot for Natural Nasal Relief

Allergies and Nasal Congestion–Try a Neti Pot!*

Are you tired of using steroids and expensive medicines and not getting any relief from your allergy symptoms?  You have got to try a neti pot!  We recently used this Nasopure neti pot on our 6 year old son who had been uncomfortable on a daily basis with post-nasal drip and constant snorting (gross, I know!) and coughing.  The neti pot brought him instant and long lasting relief.*  It might look funny, but trust us when we say it WORKS!  It clears the “gunk” out and hydrates and soothes your sinuses.  And what’s also amazing is that our son even likes doing it.  We found this particular design to be simple to use; our son easily does it by himself.   It’s available on Amazon and at Whole Foods.  Last we checked, the Amazon price was a few dollars cheaper than Whole Foods’.

Acupuncture for Back Pain

Acupuncture for Back PainBack pain is one of the most common conditions that we see in the clinic.  In fact, statistics show that 8 out of 10 people will deal some form of back pain in their lifetime.  Fortunately, research has shown that acupuncture is a natural remedy that can have a great impact on managing and relieving hard-to-treat back pain when other forms of treatment have failed.*  We are experienced in successfully treating back pain and have been named by Lahey Clinic’s Spine Center as one of its preferred providers.*

Acupuncture for All Forms of Back Pain

Back pain comes in many shapes and forms, and its presentation will vary depending on its cause.  In general, people who come to the clinic tend to have either acute or chronic back pain.  Acute pain will generally be of shorter duration – lasting less than 3 months – whereas chronic back pain lasts more than 3 months.  Pain can be concentrated in one area or radiate to others.  For instance, a common term used to describe a type of back pain is “sciatica”.  Sciatica is a general term used to describe pain radiating down the leg.

Whether acupuncture will be effective or not will largely be determined by what is causing the pain.*  With regards to radiating pain, like sciatica, the cause can vary significantly from trigger points within the muscles, to degenerative disks, to herniated disks or spinal stenosis (narrowing of spinal canal or the intervertebral spaces).

To determine whether we can help, a full work up is done and any x-ray or MRI reports are used to assess which tissues are involved.   Determining which tissue planes are involved is the key to providing appropriate expectations and successful treatment plans.*  Like the skilled surgeon, the skilled acupuncturist must understand the topography of the body’s tissue planes and be able to synthesize complex presentations in order to treat complicated conditions.*

Preparing for Success: Alternative Fertility Treatments for Advanced Maternal Age

The majority of my fertility patients are between the ages of 35 and 40 years old. I also see a number of women over 40. Acupuncture is effective for women trying to conceive in a number of ways, especially in: • improving blood flow to the reproductive organs (which I will cover in my next blog); and • correcting underlying imbalances that could be distracting the body from its reproductive activities.
