Your First Visit:  What to Bring with You

Thank you for selecting Family Acupuncture and Herbs of Reading to help you with your healthcare needs. To prepare for your first visit and to expedite the registration process, please fill out the new patient form and bring it to your initial appointment:

Payment Options

Many of our patients inquire about what options are available to them to help pay for their treatments.  You might be unaware that there could be several avenues available to you for payment assistance.

Treatment Packages  Treatment discounts of up to approximately 15% are available through pre-paid treatment packages.  We can discuss what options are best for you at your first consultation.

Health Insurance  Some insurance plans do provide coverage for acupuncture treatments.  Check with your health insurer to find out whether acupuncture treatments are covered under your policy.  If there is coverage, you should to ask whether it only applies to certain conditions and whether our services would be covered.  You also should ask whether you have to meet a deductible before coverage kicks in.  We are in-network providers for:

  • Aetna
  • Blue Cross Blue Shield
  • Harvard Pilgrim Health Care
  • Allways

We are not in-network with MassHealth at this time.  Please bring your insurance card to your appointment.  We are happy to assist in verifying your insurance coverage and will support the claim submission process.

Flexible Spending Accounts (FSAs) and Health Spending Accounts (HSAs)  For those of you who have FSAs and HSAs, your acupuncture expenses are typically eligible for reimbursement from these accounts. (See IRS Publications 969 and 502 for more information.)

Medicare  Medicare does not cover acupuncture treatments by our office at this time.  If you have a secondary form of health insurance, that insurer might provide such benefits, although in our experience, we typically do not see secondary plans providing coverage for acupuncture.

Tax Deduction for Out-of-Pocket Medical Expenses  For any amounts paid for acupuncture that are not otherwise reimbursed by your insurer or from your FSA or HSA, you might be eligible to claim these expenses as itemized tax deductions.  Check with your accountant to see if you qualify for this deduction.  (See IRS Publication 502 for more information.)

This information is not intended to provide you with legal or tax advice or make any guarantees as to payment options that will be available to you.
